Wines that are bottled under this label have been identified as wines that benefit from and greatly enhance the food pairing experience. The proper pairing and combination of wine with the food produces a much greater experience than each on its own. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Fifty-Fifty is an interesting blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Petite Sirah that produced a unique robust full bodied red. The almost perfect combination of the balanced the acids, big tannins, peppery spiciness and plummy flavors of the Petite Sirah with the blackberry and strawberry fruitiness and softer balanced tannins of the Merlot produced this excellent food pairing wine. Less than 120 cases produced this wine will sell out quickly.
It seemed like the natural name and it was either Fifty-Fifty or Mertite Sirah. Fifty-Fifty is made from 100% El Dorado County grapes. El Dorado County is an AVA that is known worldwide for their robust complex wonderful reds. The AVA is comprised of the towering granite mountains of the Sierra mountain range and the western slope of the foothills at the base of the Sierra consisting primarily of well drained decomposed granite and serpentine rock. This unique terrior has a variety vineyards that each have unique geological, environmental and micro-climates that produce some very unusual and excellent wines. The vines root system penetrates the soil deep seeking the clean pure water from the snow melt. As the sun sets the hot days cool very quickly and create a convection of cold air that cools and shuts down the vines. This action forces the vines to work and absorb the micro-nutrients from below the vineyard. This aspiration action, individual micro-climates and differing soil nutrients define each individual vineyard, the flavors, and the complexity of the wines that are produced.
When you find a good vineyard that produces flavors that you favor in your wines you develop and protect that relationship with the grower. Great wine starts in the vineyard!
